Online courses for teachers and schools

As someone who has worked closely with schools, teachers and children for many years, I understand how time consuming it is to continually keep up with the latest research in speech, language and literacy.

Kat Grinceri - Director Kat’s Speech Pathology & Senior Speech Pathologist

Online courses designed specifically for teachers

After years of presenting workshops on speech, language and literacy, Kat has consolidated her knowledge and expertise into an easily accessible portal with content that’s designed specifically for teachers just like you.

Learning outcomes for each course:

Semantics and Vocabulary

Once you’ve completed your online learning, you will be able to:

  • Have a greater understanding of what skills are involved in semantics and vocabulary

  • Understand the importance of vocabulary development

  • Have knowledge of what words to teach and how to teach them

  • Have a greater ‘kit’ of activities, strategies and resources to teach vocabulary and semantics

Phonological Awareness & Phonics

Once you’ve completed your online learning, you will be able to:

  • Understand what phonemic awareness is and what key skills need to be taught.

  • Understand the important role that phonemic awareness plays in learning to read and spell.

  • Improve your knowledge of the current research in teaching phonemic awareness and phonics.

  • Reflect on what is needed for effective reading and spelling

-          Understand Synthetic Phonics teaching principles

-          Experience an example of a synthetic phonics lesson

  • Have a greater ‘kit’ of activities and strategies to teach phonemic awareness and phonics.

  • Understand when to refer on/when should you be concerned and how to refer

Why are these online courses, rather than in-person professional learning?

Here are just some of the many reasons…

  • Each person can access the course at a time that suits them, which works well for teachers since everyone has different non-teaching days/times available!

  • Provides the opportunity for year groups to complete (for example) a module at a time, then meet to discuss, before moving on to the next module.

  • Actually retain the information! It’s hard to focus and retain all the information when you have to sit through a full 2 hour or even full day workshop.

  • Administrators - no need to pay relief teachers to attend professional learning within school hours!

  • No need for you to stay after school to attend after school professional learning after school hours (when you are also tired and not likely to retain much)

  • You can go back and re-watch sections to help you understand and retain the information

Feedback from Kat’s previous teacher presentations…

  • "Your professional learning workshop was excellent. I believe it was exactly what we needed and the emphasis on blending and segmenting activities was great because that is what we are lacking. Thank you so much for the time and effort that you put into the presentation. It was clear, effective and engaging. I hope that now everyone is on the same page and is inspired to implement a really effective phonics program. Thank you!!!"
