School Holiday Group Programs
Kat’s Speech Pathology will be offering our very popular school holiday small group programs in the upcoming school holiday period! A great way to occupy your children during school holidays while also improving their skills in a range of areas. Appropriate for children with speech and language difficulties as well as for families of children with no difficulties but want to further their child’s social skills, language and/or literacy skills during the holiday period.
Key details:
4 & 5 year old group: Thursdays 9:30-11:30am (8th January, 15th January, 22nd January and 29th January), run by Alex MacNeil
6 & 7 year old group: Mondays 2-4pm (5th January, 12th January, 19th January) and the Wednesday 28th January 9-11am (due to the public holiday on the Monday), run by Fang Min Lim
8 & 9 year old group: Thursdays 2-4pm (8th January, 15th January, 22nd January and 29th January), run by Lilian Szklarz
Attend one or all sessions or however many your child can attend! For best results we recommend attending multiple sessions to see optimal progress.
Please note: parents are not to attend the group sessions to minimise the amount of people in the room and distractions for the children. You are welcome to wait in our waiting area or you can drop your child off and collect them at the end.
Structure:
The groups will be 2 hours in duration. The first 45 minutes will involve a group lesson focussing on areas of language, aimed to develop your child’s vocabulary, sentence length, ability to express themselves as well as their understanding/comprehension of language. There will then be a 30 minute break time/ morning or afternoon tea where children can have snacks and have an opportunity to socialise. The second 45 minute lesson will focus on areas of pre-literacy and literacy skills, aimed to develop your child’s phonemic awareness skills, letter/sound knowledge, and also for the 6+ year olds it will include reading and spelling at an appropriate level for their age.
There will be a minimum of 2 participants and a maximum of 4 participants for the 4 & 5 and 6 & 7 year old groups, and a maximum of 5 participants for the 8 & 9 year old group.
Cost:
The cost is $125 for the full two hour session per child. Rebates are available from your private health fund if you are covered for Speech Pathology, or if you use NDIS self or plan managed funding you can use this for the sessions. The cost covers the duration of the session but also the time for planning and preparation.
What to bring:
Please bring along your child’s water bottle and any snacks for morning/afternoon tea (no nuts please!)
